You may be accustomed to seeing rowing shells on
bodies of water near college campuses. Natchitoches is no exception.
We have fine crew teams at Northwestern and at Louisiana School for Math
Science and the Arts.
Each year, we host a regatta and crews and
singles from across the nation come to the Cane River Lake and compete in the
only 26 mile rowing marathon anywhere.
The lake winds through the
parish, has no current, and is largely sheltered from the wind. Only problem is the
length of the course. Most of these people are accustomed to courses
no longer than ten or twelve miles, and that leads to "The agony of dalegs."
