Every year, the Baptist Student Ministry holds a Shak-a-thon, where student teams build a shanty town and spend the weekend there to call attention to issues of homelessness and poverty. During the first night, severe weather with high winds and four inches of rain destroyed most of the shanties, forcing them to abandon the effort; it gave the kids a much better idea of the plight of having no good shelter than the planned event ever could have.
